Chandrayaan-Bharat’s first mission to the Moon

  • Bharat’s(India) debut mission to the Moon was launched on October 22nd, 2008 and the name of the mission is Chandrayaan-1.
  • It has send many postcard-sized HD images of the Moon and the prominent scientists all over the world will analyse the images so that till to date unraveled mysteries of the Moon will be demystified.
  • With these images creations of 3-D atlas of Moon is being carried out.
  • Terrain Mapping Camera(TMC), Lunar Laser Ranging Instrument(LLRI)and many X-Ray image ranging instruments were set in Chandrayaan .
  • The entire Chandrayaan-1 mission cost is Rs.386 cores only.
  • The aims of Chandrayaan-1 are: to locate the presence of water.
  • How to use water as possible future prepellant so that exploration of outer space will be possible in near future.
  • Searching of Helium-3 on lunar surface which can be used as possible fuel for nuclear reactors  so that the energy requirements of earth can be fulfilled .
  • To understand more the lunar gravitational field through observations from TMC and LLRI.
  • The low cot of Chandrayaan-1 possible due to coordinated efforts of HR , good infrastructure  and excellent planning , management , execution.
  • Bharat became only the fourth country to land man-made object in the lunar surface.
