Tagged Image File Format (TIFF)

TIFF is a versatile compressing picture programme , which can be compresses or uncompressed ,can be saved at any resolution without loss of image quality. TIFF stands for Tagged Image File Format. It is generally preferred for commercial publishing works which may require high resolution. In the TIFF format original information is secured. SO,it is a form of lossless compression.

Advantages:

TIFF supports 16 bits per channel of multi-layer CMYK images.It is compatible with most image editing programs.It is just like PDF documents to picture formats as Windows or Mac platforms is not an issue with in one sentence it is platform independent.So , it has multi platform compatibility.Due to this feature , it is widely used ,especially in the printing job and news-printing industry.

Disadvantages:

If you are shooting photos with camera in TIFF format and taking a collage of pictures , then it can be a constrained for you. TIFF takes a longer time to write into the camera memory. TIFF is the largest in size compared to other formats. TIFF can be a boon for amateur photographers as less manipulation of camera setting and post processing of photos needed with the TIFF format.
