Managing System Information from the command line IN XP system. To go
XP systems System Information , go to ‘Start’, click ‘Run‘ , Enter ‘msinfo32″ (without quotes) , click ‘OK’ or else alternative route
Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools .
Msinfo32Displays a comprehensive view of your hardware, system components, and software environment. You can use this syntax to get full system information.
msinfo32 [/?] [/pch] [/nfo FileName] [/report FileName] [/computer ComputerName] [/showcategories] [/category categoryID] [/categories categoryID]
System Information collects and displays system configuration information for local and remote computers. This includes information about hardware configurations, computer components, and software, including signed drivers and unsigned drivers. When support technicians troubleshoot your system configuration, they require specific information about your computer. You can use System Information to quickly find the information that these technicians need to resolve a system problem.
System Information saves data files in a native (.nfo) format. You can also open .cab and .xml files in System Information. When you open .cab files, you can view the contents of those files by using the Tools menu.
To print system data:
Open ‘System Information’
On the ‘File’ menu left click ‘Print’
You can specify the system data that you want to print in the ‘Print range’ . Click All to print all of the system data.Click Selection to print the currently selected category and all its subcategories.
Click Pages, and then specify the page numbers in from and to, to print a range of pages of the system data.
System information is automatically refreshed before each print job. Print outputs from System Information, especially when you are printing of multiple categories to a print job, can be very large. You can use the ‘msinfo32’ command to limit the categories for which you export data. In one more way you can open system information that is click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click the Support button on the toolbar, and then, under Tools and Links on the left side of the window, click
Advanced System Information. In the details pane, click View detailed system information.
