“INFORMATION” is the fundamental input necessary to enable the people in the right direction in this modern ‘Era of Technology, rather one can call it the Era of Information Technology. With the progress of civilization today we have come far a head of the primitive times when human brain was the only device for storage and processing of information.
1. Universe of the study:
This survey has been confined with the I.T. functions, its users and beneficiaries with special reference to customer satisfaction index. Therefore, the boundary of this study limits within BTI, ISPAT BHAVAN, PROJECT BUILDING, OLD ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING and PLANT. Further, the researcher tried to cover all production, non-production areas. So that, a practical and on the job experience of the respondents can be scaled.
2. Scope of the study :
There is very little limitations for any such studies which has very close relationship with the perception and psychology of people. The distinction of being the first integrated steel plant with all major production units and marketable products covered under ISO 9002 Quality Certification belongs to ORGANISATION. It is the men i.e. the engineers, technicians, skilled and unskilled workers, where the degree of satisfaction level is always a matter of great debate. In a rapid changing, global scenario, creation of network society depends upon the flow of information and the information mainly uses recent technologies and within technology information technology and communication is the key. In both the technologies, internet intranet, wired and wireless communication is the key. It will generate a network of people to servers, in turn connecting people to people at the horizontal and vertical levels. An equitable society can only be thought of if, a network like this exists. Time has come to think of a culture for equitable information society among citizens, communities and companies for a better and faster development. Therefore, there is still unlimited scope for the study of the subject. With the help of this study, we can redefine the landscape of businesses and cultures.
3. Sampling Design:
A step in planning the design is to identify the target population and select the sample if a census is not desired. The nature of this study is very specific pertaining to the importance of the subject and its utility in ORGANISATION. A sample is a part of target population, carefully selected to represent that population. Here every person within the target population a known non-zero chance of selection. The concept and application of Information and Communication technology (ICT) both wired and wirless has made a deep impact on the length and breadth of ORGANISATION. Every executives and non-executives are closely associated with it.
I.T. facilities made deeper penetration inside ORGANISATION. So, the process of collecting the samples becomes more crucial. In this survey, it was tried that the sample of respondence should be proportionate covering each and every department of ORGANISATION.
The basic idea of sampling is that by selecting some of the elements in a population, we may draw conclusion about entire population. A population element is the subject on which measurement is being taken. It is the unit of study. Here, an element may be senior, middle lower executives or senior non-executives.
In studying customer satisfaction with the service operation of I.T. wings, the population of interest is all individuals who have had influenced by Information Communication Technology and customers of it. So, population element is any one individual interacting with required communication hardware, software and a fibre optics backbone.
There are several compelling reasons for sampling, including (1) lower cost, (2) greater accuracy (3) greater speed of data collection (eleven days) (4) availability of population elements.
Representation:
The members of a sample are selected on a probability basis. Probability sampling is based on the concept of random selection – a controlled procedure that assures that each population element is given nonzero chance of selection.
4. Sample Size:
The performance of ORGANISATION is commendable as it has achieved all the objectives which have been set. This could be possible with the consistent efforts and team work of the employees. Hence, it was not possible for the researcher to collect a very large number of sample sizes. The sample size is neither too large nor too small. The researcher sample size is one hundred thirty five (135) . In every analysis extensive use of spss 10 is used .
Limitations of the study:
The study has been strictly confined with the I.T. activities and its impact on employees’ level of satisfaction Index. The area and the people who are covered under this study were those customers who have direct or indirect relationship with different I.T. activities. Therefore, the limitation of this study was the subject matter that of I.T. function and its users. This study has two ends that are I.T. theory and I.T. practices in the work culture of ORGANISATION and nothing beyond this limit.
The preceding discussion on the different applications of this research should not lead any one to assume that this research con solve all the problems of Information Communication Technology. While it can be extremely rewarding to a firm, it is wise to know that it is subject to certain limitations.
First – very many times, the research tends to be fragmentary in its approach.
Second – It is criticized on the ground that it becomes too superficial and faulty in Industry.
A major misuse of these types of researches is found when one uses it to support or substantiate his view point or position. In such a case, objectivity, which is the soul of research, is non-existent. To collect data and to interpret them deliberately to prove or disprove a certain point does not qualify as legitimate research.
Therefore the limitations of this study was the true test of an engaged, empowered and equitable Information Society will be the extent to which today’s powerful knowledge based communications tools are able to connect different peoples across all level of employees and information divide.
