Forced Occupation at Grand Road, Puri

Posing a straight challenge to law enforcing authority and municipality members, some influential people, forcefully opened “shoe-stand” in front of the famous Lord Jagannath Temple of Puri. The shoe stand is straight in front of “Patitapabana” in front of auspicious Lord of Universe “Lord Jagannath”. In earlier times, some parts of famous “Emara Matha” was broken into to make way widen the road in front of temple, and in this way the primary aim was to clear the “forced occupation” in front of Lord Jagannath Temple as well as to restore sanctity of this famous Heritage.

Desire is the obstacle to liberation:

Some influential people energized from the support of political power have created a shop through invading ten feet of the grand road just in front of “Patitapabana” of Lord Jagannath Temple. Powerful, political people are creating all these harakiri straight under the nose of the law enforcing authorities and municipality people. Now, good citizens of this ancient town are questioning the ability of both these institutions who have sole responsibility to promote peaceful environments in and around all these areas.

At the grand road of Puri, in front of the famous Lord Jagannath Temple, are being difficult to manage due to the advent of large scale of population from around the world and now with these forced occupation, slowly grand road is converting into a narrow lane. Government agencies are surprisingly silent on these matters. Due to large khaja-pati” in front of Emara Math, the entire area became a narrow zone, and in 2012, administration breaks 15 feet areas of this famous heritage in order to widen the road, but after that the same khaja shop keepers are back in those places and it is being said in people’s circle as all these shops are being protected by influential political people.

Emara Math is a 700 year old heritage and the administration did not think twice before breaking some parts of it but now in those parts people from political parties are making a show stand and that is narrowing the line of the grand road. Earlier, it was decided that the areas which have been broken is to be assimilated with roads but after almost one year there is no single decision which leads it to this manner. The administration failed to take back those forced occupation and the incident is now almost two years old.

So, now the question arises, if the government could not enforce the law of the land there, then why a glorious history of 700 years of a myth is to be broken in parts? There are many unanswered questions which are yet to be solved and how to find all these answers and why the administration is not dispersing forced occupation in and around areas of splendid road just in front of the famous Lord Jagannath temple is still not answered. Those khaja shops have opened their temporary shops in those areas and that part of temple land is being taken over them and the road in those parts is being similarly covered and in day time the traffic becomes extremely difficult to control in and around in those areas. Those khaja shopkeepers have blessings of political people and they are openly selling these by openly violating laws of lands.

Now the shoe-stand in those locations have advanced five feet creating many blockages in and around areas nearer to this illustrious Lord Jagannath Temple. Now, from Sunday, a new show stand nearer to famous Emara math which is now advancing 10 feet towards the road and it is making many difficulties to people. People are questioning shoe-stand in front of Lord Jagannath Temple and raising the issue of ethics from them. Countless people believe a shoe stand just in front of Lord Jaganath Temple is unethical and unjust and this should be removed straight away without any delay. In order to earn money, influential people advanced this show stand nearer to the road and virtually near to Jagannath temple but law enforcing authority and municipality is not listening to what people are worried about.

Devotees from all around the world questioning on what morality and on what basis law enforcing authority and municipality have become silent spectators to all these misguided acts? Law enforcing authorities are saying what should we do, it is primarily the job of municipality but they are remaining silent as it is evident as most of their members are patronizing these shops, and why they should be stopping as it is their primary personal revenue generation elements.

Law enforcing authorities are stopped by big political powers and for this they could not stop these shops from mushrooming in these holy areas. They are saying the administration has to help them in order to act and it is true as administration is stopping them and in a way of handicapping them from performing these tasks. Higher law enforcing authorities are saying they are aware of these matters and they are considering action against those forced occupants.

Auspicious Sunday and traffic problems:

At this auspicious Sunday, in the month of Pusha or January in English, many influential people reached Jagannath temple and their vehicles have covered most portions of the grand road and closing half of width of the road and creating undesired traffic problems in and around these areas. Traffic police became a mute spectator and could not stop anarchy of lands in and around in these areas. People have been worried about all these rush hours and have difficult to find the way out from these rush places. In a private convention hall near to badashankha, there was a get together and many influential people all around attended the meeting.

Political class also joined these meetings. All those influential people have parked their vehicles in the middle of the road thus obstructing basic communication medium available to people. Almost half portion of the road had been covered by their vehicle. No one from the municipality as well as law enforcing authorities who have been travelling in these roads lodged complain or take any action on these people. On this Sunday many people reached to Puri to have pious glance of Lord Jagannath and this adds a problem as most roads have been taken over by vehicles of these influential people as well as shops for these forced occupants. Traffic police are facing huge difficulties in controlling devotees, but they are not taking action against those influential people who have parked their vehicle in the middle of roads.

One person collided with auto taxi due to intemperate rush and unable to find a free space for these mob. Cars are parked where people tend to walk and for this he just has to change the side of walking and running auto from other side collided with him. Law enforcing authorities are trying to convey all these messages to influential people, but they have not listened to their request. Inside the convention hall many considerate people are there and for this they are unable to convey these messages to them. Due to huge number of vehicles stranded there it is virtually impossible to control vehicles out there as one writer is not sufficient to control already huge number of cars.

How to Stay Safe Walking on the sidewalk, path, or Road?

Is there a solution to unrestricted access of traffic and movements of vehicles on their own in order to find out the shortest possible routes and time and again breaking the laws of the land in order to reach their destination on time? Still am not been able to find out these solutions and to my utter surprise even at the presence of so many large number of enforcement agencies and close circuit cameras but.

Still breaking of the law is there and it continues undoubtedly and without any restrictions.
This is the story of the pill grim town of Odisha and one of most visited places of India where throughout the year there are presence of large number of floating population and where one could find each and every time of year is full of so many people and one could see how the vehicles and people breaking laws time and again without any fears.

There are small hotels and presence of so many of commercialization here and there and while looking at all of these one could find the sense that everywhere one go one need to find the road within precision and for this one need to walk with greater care otherwise movement within these specification of shortened roads due to presence of large number of vehicles parked here and there as well as the presence of people standing in between roads and without care and then suddenly someone from somewhere would appear from nowhere to take shorten the road further.

In between while walking and moving with vehicles one would find that there are absolutely large number of auto rickshaws which are moving without any number plates and how these are running and how these unregistered autos are allowed and how they move one could see that they would move with superlative speed and that too you cannot believe and they have no fear for law enforcing authorities as they move with great neck speed which you hardly believe.

In between there are very big dustbins from Municipality of Puri but still you would see there are so many number of food stalls at the side of roads and they put the wastages out there on the roads instead of using the official dustbins and that makes the questions why as for some of them the location of dustbins nearer to their stall but still they opt for using to throw it on the ground instead of using the dustbins for it.

For some days we see the presence of large number of workers who used to come in the morning and go with small dustbins of different colors and then blow the whistle in the sense that people would provide and throw dusts but still they come at some day and in some other days they are not there and people continue to throws these wastes on the roads and for some when they wake up early in the morning they used to throw darts at the front of some other persons home and the reasons best known to them.

It is like placing Wi-Fi router at the appropriate place where the signals from the outside should reach to it with good effect as well as that of processing of sending of signals to the appropriate locations should be there in order to find out good speed of router. Try to place the router at the open space or at the drawing room so that network signals should be good all over inside of your home.

Similarly, in traffic locations when there is comfortable movement of vehicles all over and most of them are listening to what the traffic rules are then listening to all of these and movement within these ranges becomes extremely easier for us.

Similarly, even though when you look at the VIP road you can clearly find the divider as well as there is room for people to walk but most of these footpath areas are covered by food stalls and this makes the movement within these roads extremely difficult for bystanders and pedestrians.

The municipality is trying its best and it is downsizing the square and most of these squares have big idols and their down size these in order to create more room for vehicles so that the pedestrians should walk comfortably without any difficulties.

What is most non-impressive that some of two wheelers as well as some of three wheelers in terms of auto-rickshaws are continuing their endeavor and trying different ways to move in short cuts and in this manner most of routes becomes very difficult and dangerous to move it on.

In the perspective of pedestrians one needs to be extremely cautious while walking through these roads as one needs to see at every directions possible and keep their ear open all the time so that the anticipation of moving of vehicles and racing of vehicles from different directions should be equally listened so that ultimately one could sense the speed of vehicles from different directions and move towards different ways in according with it.

The VIP road connects Puri with the rest of states as well as most of floating populations reaching to Puri from different locations they think that this is not the en-route to town but they think and drive as if they are driving within the high way and that is why one could witness the presence of speeding vehicles moving from different directions and for this it is important to learn about this and move ahead in accordance with it with extreme and due care.

One should also be extremely careful while walking along these roads as in between these roads there are some big shops like that of automobile showrooms and there are big inter-state trucks standing out there at the footpath of the road and moving into these roads becomes extremely difficult there on.

If you happen to move by going ahead of these trucks then you will be exposing yourself towards the speeding vehicles and the road ahead and that could be very dangerous to cross these roads and for this it is important to keep an eye towards each and every corner of roads and then slowly move ahead with it.

This article is not to terrify the readers but let them understand and know about the state of the roads and vehicles moving there and one should be extremely cautious while crossing these roads as vehicles roaming here and there carelessly would reach towards you and it is important for you to keep track of all of these vehicles while moving or crossing from one side of the road towards the other.

Picking up the pieces after Cyclone Fani

In the previous article I detailed about hardships of Cyclone Fani. After 20 days and after counting of general election at India as well as assembly election we do find that the process of getting relief materials is accelerated. This is a soothing news considering Cyclone Fani comes in the wake of time when there is election and no government can actively help due to restrictions from election commission of India.

Man proposes but God disposes:

At last the process of general election ends and after the counting on May 23, 2019 we came across that government is active again. In Odisha, the ruling BJD party comes with mammoth majority and in India Modi government came with triple hundred of seats. In Odisha BJP goes up in parliament seat from one to eight and in assembly election BJP becomes major opposition party removing and pacing Congress to miserably third position.

Relief after Cyclone Fani:

Throughout Odisha, the ruling party BJD comes back again in assembly election. At Puri the five time MLA, the stubborn leader of BJD, Maheswar Mohanty surprisingly lost to BJP. This means we do feel that the releif will stayed out of our locality as the result of it. Suddenly, one big fellow with a small motor cycle reached and told daddy to reach to Dutt Totha where the counting of releif to the persons who have no ration card is undergoing.

Daddy and the neighbour person went to Dutt Totha and there they submitted their Adhar card and and the numbers of members in the family and their Adhar numbers. In this way, the importance attached with Adhaar card comes into lime light. This means that within shortest possible of time, we will r I can receive payment of 2000 anf 50 kg of rice as per releif related with Cyclone Fani.

After some days three persons from government came and they came with camera and they ask for Adhaar card and they write down the Adhaar number, then they ask for what are the deastruction casued due to advent of Cyclone Fani, they took the screenshot with the camera and then they ask for cold water and then they went away. This means that in the times to come perhaps the major releif in terms of monetary help for reconstructions of destruction caused due to excessive super cyclone Fani.

This means that the process of aid and investments from governments is slowly, reaching to us and even after toiling hard for last 20 days we are slowly getting major helps from government and this makes the process of releif are reaching to us and this makes us feeling nice and good. In the mean time, we see how the electric wire circulated from one side to other and reaching to ours electric pole.

The prospects of coming up electric lights slowly at the increase, electric persons told us that light will come at night of 24th May 2019 and at exactly 7.40 pm light came and it came after almost 21 days of cyclone Fani. During these difficult times, for the first time in my life time I stayed for almost 21 days without lights and it increases as first the light connection come nearer to ours area but ours locality does not have light connection.

I can remember when I was four to five years old, daddy’s posting was at Nayagarh, State Bank of India as Cash Officer and there after rain light will cut for two to three days. In the days at Udala Mayurbhanj, there in the week days there used to be cyclone with rain and the power cut will have for almost two to three days in the long run. During that time the electric connections comes up from Khunta few kilometers from udala and it is at the similar distance from Mayurbhanj and this means that in this time at Puri town where for almost 21 days we were at the state of no electricity.

Necessity is the mother of invention:

So, for me it is a record or sort but this record I musr wish to forget indeed. Thankfully, the electric connectivity came and it came with higher voltages as the other connection from ours poles are cut and for this entire phase connectivity comes to ours home and it destroys some balls and one ceiling fan of ours.

In the mean time, installation of tubewell completed. It took almost three days to complete. Now, with the availability of alternative water source, the tension of light not there is almost not there, as for every house hold there must convenient for second water sources other than water motors as water motors runs when there is electricity.

A tubewell which can run without electricity, is a must for every house hold as it can provide water when there is no electricity. At home one must prepare for availability of water through sources other than one. Similarity the presence of alternative water sources such as that of inverter or generator is a must as it can provide releif from power cut or power failures for the shorter durations.

Alternatives to electricity and water in the house hold is a must as it can provide convenience for users in the times of distess. One cannot anticipate, when will natural disaster will come and in what way it will come and what amount and scope of destruction will there at the presence of people. If there is earthquake then even the presence of dual water presence such as tubewell as well as that of water motor connectivity, can face destruction in these times.

Man proposes and God disposes. We cannot feel the safe in the presence of natural calamities. We can make only the conveniences, but we cannot predict what are the safest route and convenient process but still we can try hard to maintain the process of safe practices, but still we can move towards the process of absolute relief which is a myth indeed but we can try to safer and move towards absolute, safe heaven is a myth indeed.

6th May 2019, three days aftermath of Cyclone Fani

Cyclone Fani came and went and this is about 4 to 5 days now. Puri market is slowly opening. Now, in the market the cost of lean candles are that of 80 to 120 rupees. No law enforcing authorities are stopping these people to sell at such high prices. Electricity is still not there. Water scarcity, and still that time no provisions of drinking water at our locality.

Eveready torches which takes one or three or four pencil batteries are now in the market. They are selling these torche at very high cost. After some time government offering these torches free of cost and to each person with Adhar Card one torches and these are there nearer to main police station of Puri town.

Suddenly, neighbour came and said that the persons of local councillor came here, and distributing some relief materials and they gave us one packet and for the first time we do feel the presence of government in some way after four to five days of Cyclone Fani.

Life in Puri, Odisha continues to grim three days after extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani

When I moved into Puri town after three to four days of onset of this cyclone I do find as if I were in at a different world. Post office, banks, ATMs each and every possible financial institutions were out of order. People needs money the liquidity of finance but not able to collect even for their own accounts. Summer is at its extreme peak.

There is no chances of any wind and the heat of summer is at its peak. Ours terrace asbestos completely broken so direct sun light comes into it and that makes the environment warmer. I could see there are no chances of anywhere the presence of rescue operations as trees are broken and the amount of destruction in and around Puri town is clearly visible. We received some relief material and with it comes dried rice, some candles, some biscuit packets and some match box.

Dried rice helps us immensely in these tiring and disturbing situation. For first time after Cyclone Fani we ate rice and dalma cooked by mummy at home. Till then we are eating foods brought from outside as such is the tiresome moments with no water and electricity we tend to move towards the state of an era of before christ the age of dark ages.

In the mean time my younger sister underwent severe surgery at Apollo Hospital Chennai, 10 days before the advent of Cyclone Fani and she was also feeling the brunt of difficulties with it and each day a compounder comes to dressing her wounds after surgery and he used to take 200 rupees for the 10 minute dressing.

Daddy bought 8 large torches and my younger sister’s 4 year old son used to be afraid of dark and use to take two torches in his hand and show to the roof so that light will always with him. He used to switched on torches and hold two in his hand and show to the rood of rooms in order to remove the darkness and the eagerness of the four year child is completely eminent.

In the meantime Khuntia Petrol Pump which is at the heart of Puri town opens with generators and this used to remove the worries of people who have plenty of worries of collecting petrols at high rates from collecting outside at according to people outside petrol pumps the cost of petrol was almost 200 rupees per litre. With opening up petrol pumps on 6th of May three days aftermath of Cyclone Fani major worries of people of having petrols or diesels for their vehicles gone for the time being.

Opening up of terrace door three days after Cyclone Fani:

In the Cyclone Fani, the rooftop of terrace asbestos flied to somewhere and the door of terrace which is the entrance towards terrace locked and difficult to open. Due to cyclone and rain entire roof top is covered with water due to presence of large number of branches of trees as well as that of glasses that comes from nearby Vishal Mega Mart glassed windows.

Despite trying hard we cannot open the terrace door situated at the end of high rise steps at home. We have to find the alternative route, as from the side of neighbour, their steps is blocked due to fall of coconut trees as well as glasses and other materials which flies from anywhere due to onset of Cyclone Fani.

So, we decided to move to terrace from the side of opening up asbestos but some how with the help of large tables I reach at the top but moving to the down is difficult. As the parts of cement structures which break when asbestos flied stopped me to jump from the top to the surface of terrace. That means the second strategy to break into terrace flopped and now we have to strategise another strategy to open up terrace as the water is not moving there from anywhere and it can weaken the roof top out from there.

Now, me and daddy came to entrance of ours home and from there through boundaries I climbed into walls and then into terrace and then I reached towards the main door of terraces which locked due to force of Cyclone Fani, and I had to remove the support of door which was made of cement and iron and then after almost trying hard for 15 minutes the door finanly opens and daddy came to terrace and we both cleared all branceh, glasses and other flying objects roaming here and there.

After removing all of these, finally, we cleared all obstacles that garbaged nearer to drains of terrace and then the water which was stored as the result of this removed from there and terrace blockage of doors and blockages of waters completely removed from that position.
When the nigh came, it appeared as if we were entering into an era of pre-historic days where there is no power supply, no water.

People used to not to venture out to market after eight pm of night as there was no electricity in Puri town, entire route was filled with darkness and there were rumours that thugs from outside states came to this town with gangs and can attack people and loot money by taking the help of darkness and for this after eight pm entire Puri town compelled to sleep of stayed at home.
