Billion Dollar Farmers

During the first week of December from third to sixth, World Trade Organization hosted its ninth convention in Bali Island of Indonesia. Total 159 countries took part in this meeting. Here, topics from varied subjects are identified in the discussion.

There are numerous conflicts and feuds in varied subjects among diverse nations. The subject includes matters concerning peace clause of food subsidy, trade facilitation. There is growing disenchantment between G-33 countries and the US in all these touchy issues.

Even there is a growing mismatch of opinions among US and European unions on several disjoint issues inside World Trade Forums arenas. Nevertheless, director of WTO spells positivity from these meetings.

He hoped for a succeeding incarnation of controversial GATT, which was enacted in 1995. If that so then it is a huge loss for developing an agrarian-based economy like India.

What is most astonishing, so-called electronic and newsprint media are propagating that India has successfully emphasized its stake in this edition of the WTO. They are completely ignoring the recent GATT like an agreement which seems to be more difficult for predominant farming countries like India.

What is most astounding is that Indian Media are propagating that India is able to hold its rights in a stronger way, but in reality, it does not seem so considering the pragmatic aspect of the agreement.

The government of the day is pronouncing that they have not taken any adverse step against the complete eradication of food subsidy and they have not moved the inch towards obstructing the intention of food security.

They are celebrating the win of India all around in the form of the World Trade Organization. In reality, it happens exactly the opposite. Major hand in India with nations from G 33 is obstructing the implementation of food subsidy and food insecurity.

After considerable pressure from improving nations in India has to bow down and accept all controversial clauses. It will hamper the food security of poor citizens to its fullest and will create more intense difficulties for citizens and create more and more starving people all around the world.

World Trade Organization and International Monetary Fund are the certain organization of the world which safeguards the interests of affluent nations such as US and EU.

It forms policies in favour of richer and developed countries. It is trying to open up trade facilitation among all nations in the outside aim to secure food security but in reality, it acts in the opposite, as and when the economy of any particular country, goes downwards.

It will facilitate smoother policies so that all their economies will not stay in a proper manner. It will guarantee of taking away of all pastoral products to additional nations and it will make policies in favour of multinational companies.

It is not going to help a destitute country as it aims more on benefits than creating food security environments. Their aim is to destroy agriculture, self-reliant on food for promoting and poor nations.

For this, every strengthening countries should aim at moderating the infrastructure facilities for mechanized output by supplying provisions for prudent policy decisions such as building up more and more ports, simplification of import and export related issues and removing all delays in decisions making.

All these issues can boost India’s economy, if it satisfies the conditions of the WTO in the correct approach so that all these can have a simple passage in the Indian economy with a smoother process of decisions making and greater transparency in policy matters.

It is not an easier task, all these need a healthy sum computerization in private as well as public sector, but control in the private sector is not an easier task as most separate of it are still under the unorganized sector.

WTO announced that the trade of the world will be one trillion dollars and soon India will have a better chunk of its development, which is not right as it is almost impossible for India to achieve that target and it is the sheer duplicity of all these statements which will go to hurt India in the longer run.

All these benefits do not depend upon India’s growth, instead, it depends upon various decision making and trade facilitation of all the other member countries of the world, and there will be scope for manipulation from other countries in order to adjust rankings of India and that will hurt India the most.

it is going to be the most demanding and dangerous aspect of agricultural business all around that would ultimately announce the doomsday for India’s eternal agricultural sector.

Developed countries are developing the concept of billion-dollar farmers and they have been helping them in numerous ways through various acts of new policy decisions.

The current state of policies which is announced and signed by all member countries signifies these statements, and this creates the most contradicting factor of polities inside all these serious policy decisions.

These create internal turbulence of food security among citizens and also the developed countries has been ushering the tell of food for all but in reality, they are enforcing all these decisions making guidelines only to reach their farmers and multinational retailers.

According to recent agreement in subsidies, it has been classified into three classes of the amber box, blue and green box subsidy and then products from all these subsidies have different trading guidelines and this will obstruct products of common farmers to sell their food further.

Then the real difficulty of not selling products and not getting adequate benefits from their agricultural output will simply make them poorer and ultimately spell their doomsday.

A concept of minimizing subsidy is initiated and the time frame to delete it is only four years for improving countries. Developing countries have to keep subsidy to ten percentage bare minimum of their production.

This signifies that now in times to come more and more farmers will not be entitled to have subsidy and this will create difficulty for them.

Due to the high cost associated with production, they will not be doing farming activities and most of the individual and unorganized farming sector will cease to exist, and this will create difficulty in traditional farming areas such as India.

The cost of production will be on rising so as the price of products and this will create the imbalance within society and existing market and this will add fuel to already upward inflation and this will grow to a height which will slowly reach to an unbearable position among masses.

Slowly, small farmers will sell their land to rich farmers of rich nations known as billion-dollar farmers and they will start production in the low cost of labour within our country.

Then take away those productions with the support of recent agreement of WTO to their nations and then package it and sell it in our country with skyrocketing prices and thus the concept of food security will be inside the dream of few.

It is an amazing time to review those agreements otherwise, in the long run, the rise of inflation and food insecurity will be the most puzzling domain to achieve.

This means from now on the right to food security for the people of India will be not part of the hands of Parliament of India, the temple of democracy; it will be slowly shifted to the hands of billion dollar farmers of rich and developing countries.

Whether all these are not intrusive to the constitution of India and whether all these are not the other way round of entering into economies of India, just like the East- India companies have entered the way back and destroyed the liberty and equality of common citizens.
