How to stream digital media from Windows 8 to Android without an internet connection

There are lots of new and innovative things to explore in Windows 8. Windows 8 has minimalists design. It stresses more on networking and wireless distribution. I have been using Windows since Windows 98 versions. Never before I find such easiest way to network on various fronts with Windows than Windows 8. In this article, we would learn how to set up home wireless networking using built-in Wi-Fi functionality, then access media contents through smart phone devices wirelessly within purview of comfortable distance and play those songs and multimedia contents.

 

Here multimedia contents include images, audios and videos. All these would have been there on your Windows 8 computer. No need to copy these multimedia contents to android smart phone and tablets. From right hand side menu settings of ‘Settings’ application reach to ‘Network’. Then reach to ‘Wi-Fi’. Here move the slider to turn Wi-Fi device on. You do not need any special Wi-Fi connectivity for this, just simply turned on the Wi-Fi device in order to activate ‘Mobile AP’.

Now reach to the upper menu of ‘Network’ and reach to ‘Mobile AP’. ‘Mobile AP’ works as an internet access point and here, even without an internet connection you would create and home wireless-connectivity. In order to activate it gives a name to ‘SSID’ and then use ‘Security Settings’ as ‘WPA2 PSK (Non-Open)’. This is the most comprehensive security parameters in order to stop hackers from trespassing. Then provide ‘Password’ and save. Then at the next instance move button from off to on in order to activate ‘Mobile AP’ from Windows 8.

So far, we have enabled network access point on Windows 8 with a secure network. In the next step, we learn about how to enable sharing of multimedia components within the home network. We are slowly moving towards making Windows 8 computers a full scaled wireless without internet connected media streaming device. Wow reads it on.

Windows 8 with administrative privilege is now a server, preferably media streaming server. Now, in the next part we would be moving towards configuring client side, preferably Samsung Galaxy android device so as to run music of computer with galaxy device.

From Samsung Galaxy Android device, expected TouchWiz interface enabled, now slide from top down to open the top menu. There touches the Wi-Fi icon to enable Wi-Fi. It would scan for Wi-Fi services. Mobile AP of computer would be shown as a Wi-Fi network to your android device. It would search for available Wi-Fi networks in your locality.

It will show your network along with all the other available networks. Click on connect and it would ask for ‘Network SSID’ , ‘Security’ and ‘Password’. Place all three which you would have placed while creating Mobile Access Protocol (Mobile AP) with Windows 88. Then select save and automatically yours Samsung Galaxy Android device would be connected to your home network.

Reach to desktop for Samsung Galaxy Android phone. Go to all application and then double tap on ‘Music’. It is default music application of android phone. It would open the music player. Click on the left hand side the hard drive menu of ‘Music’. then double tap on ‘scan for nearby devices’.

 

It would scan for home network and multimedia contents stored, inside server-computer. Then, after scanning it would show ‘nearby devices found’. This means Samsung Galaxy Android phone is now connected with the media server for Windows 8.

From there, you would be presented with media server, in this example case it as shown in screenshot it is ‘SAMSUNG: me’ and double tap on that name to enter into list of music on your Windows 8 hard drive to be shown on Samsung Galaxy Android smart-phone. From there tap on the desired song you would like it to be played and slowly that song would be playing on android.

My first testing shows first connect Wi-FI of android nearer to computer then move anywhere in your home and listen to songs stored inside computer. For the first few seconds, it would process the lists of songs, but on second count you would not have to wait for that.

 

When you first connect device with this network, yours android device would list utmost 25 songs but do not be disheartened, as subsequently, this list would grow in the second and third connectivity and whole set up songs would be connected consider this you would have connected the same set up songs on Windows 8 to its library.
