How to Use:
Image and video hosting by TinyPic Mulch turns stone to soil. South Florida’s main type of “soil” is Miami limestone, read “rock”. It is hard to dig in. It is high in pH, which causes nutrient deficiencies. The broken down mulch becomes rich, organic material. Mulching is like composting and it is suitable for South Florida reason.

When to apply:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Before adding the mulch, spray the ground. Make sure the ground underneath your mulch is weed-free. Mulch should be added to planting beds or around trees at a depth of about three inches. Do not put mulch directly next to the trunks or stems of plants. Leave an area that is free of mulch.  Apply around trees, shrubs, flowers or vegetables after seeds have germinated and plants have developed. Apply around trees, shrubs, flowers or vegetables after seeds have germinated and plants have developed.

Where not to use:

Weeds have a much harder time germinating in a thick layer of mulch than in top soil. Pour boiling water on the weeds. This will kill many of them. Mulch should not be added before seeds have germinated, around underdeveloped plants, and within several inches of house foundations or other wood surfaces.

Coverage area:

Cover the ground before you mulch. A 2 cu. ft. bag will cover the following: At a depth of 2 inches, 12 sq. ft of bedding area. At a depth of 3 inches, 8 sq. ft. of bedding area. At a depth of 4 inches, 6 sq. ft. of bedding. It keeps weed roots from establishing any depth underground. For an alternative you can use newspaper sheets, but do not use oily newspapers. It limits weeds germination and limits and eventually decomposes weeds in mulch areas.
