It is the process of gathering information about the job and evaluating such information .Job  is a group of essentially similar activities or tasks performed by a person or a group of persons.

To communicate duties and responsibilities attached to a job to the employees  for their clear understanding . Work flow analysis. Identify redundant work element.HR decisions such as promotion, transfer, relocation.
Facilitates job restructuring. Scope for internal and external hiring
Performance standards.

What should be analysed?

Job identification . Purpose of the job. Specific task and areas of responsibility. Important characteristics of the job.Operation,time spent on each task. Underlying authority,Working relationship ,Methods ,equipments and techniques required for the job.Job conditions.
