Does Windows defragment your SSD?

Why does fragmentation affect to disc drives of computers? After buying a computer the first thing that comes to mind is to connect to the internet. Nowadays the price of high-speed internet is cheaper and that is why the spread of internet has been far and wide deeper into towns and now even villages. More and more use of internet means downloading of songs, videos and even streaming of songs and videos does take disc place in terms of creation of cache files so that every time you go into the particular website it does not download those files again and again.

This means with the use of internet from now on the use of disc drives and the pressure on it is more and more and this means there would be wear and tear to the drives with continuous use. While you run apps and software on computers it responds to files and writes those on discs so that you could enjoy running of these apps efficiently. This means that with the further and more use of such apps and software the writings of these on the solid-state drives come again and again.

Drives used to respond to all applications that have been running through inputs and outputs functions and that makes wear and tear to solid state drives. In this way, the temporary written internet files, installation of games, song cache spreads at different locations of drives and when such app begins sometimes without proper defragmentation running of these apps do take some time.

The ideal situation would be all the similar types of files should be at the single location that is temporary internet files to be at one location in a clutter and then the game files should be at single conglomerate locations and then the songs files and so on and this makes indexing of files becomes easier. Then in another situation perhaps you want to uninstall some apps, and delete temporary internet files and deletes songs so the state of indexing and conglomeration of identical data files becomes completely haphazard.

In this situation, there is a good idea to defrag your drives. In this situations, there would be various empty spaces and out of this, you would like to move some files so that space arrangements of these files should be equally good enough so that you would find more and more speed option to find out these files easily. If defragmentation not done in these situations then from time to time you would find that the performance of the system would be slower and this situation it is almost critical to defragment files so that computer performance and indexing of files should be at easier ways.

Further with the advancements of modern technology on hard drives the new generation of hard drives such as solid state drives which comes up with automatically arrangements of files and this in a way is completely negating the notion further of the essential of defragmentation on drives.

In the age-old standard mechanical hard disc drives the forms and factors of defragmentation is a necessity but in the case of modern solid state drive, one should not install any third party defragmentation as it would shorten the life of drives and this means that slowly the concept to manage defragmentation on drives is diminishing rapidly.

Since Windows 8 and beyond we have seen Microsoft’s default defragmenter software is slowly increasing its efficiency and providing proper performance augmentations. If you are using Windows 7 and beyond then there is no need to be any of third-party defragmenter as Microsoft has made this utility party stronger and works nicely.

I would suggest that if you are using Windows then just install necessary third-party software and do not install or mess it up with systems and this would make system running smarter and perhaps, in the long run, there would be hardly any need to run defragment again and again. During the times of Windows XP, I have been using various fragments and tiring from one to one and now with the Windows 10, and the sophisticated defragmentation available we do find that more and more third party defragments are on an absolute decline.

Now, when e do find that our computer is slowing down then we should understand that perhaps it is not due to defragment option but it might have been due to the presence of opening of so many of simultaneous processes and out of these all open processes most of the time we do not need some processes and by shutting down these processes we could run computer with faster speed which we used to be since the  day one.

What we have learned so far that disc defragmentation is now the things of the past. It gets absolute prominence during the era of Windows XP and now slowly, with the stronger presence of native defragmentation, as well as the presence of the solid state, drives the emergence of the prominence of disc defragmentation is slowly reducing. During that times, with proper disc defragmentation, the startup times of system reduces and the system is able to start on time without any delay.

Now, we are in the era of Windows 10 this utility has been renamed to Defragment and Optimize Drives. As far history goes with disc defragment, for the first time in 1982, IBM DOC personal computer shipped with Disc Volume organization Optimiser.

Microsoft provides one of the elevated tools with Windows XP. It has some restrictions, but there is no provision for scheduling of defragment. Proper scheduling of disc defragment begins with Windows Vista.

Later on from Windows 7 and onwards the work of disc defragment is a completely different way and in the case of solid-state drives, the work of it is another way so as to preserve solid state drives. Modern-day hard drives come up with a finite number of cycles and this way this does not require addition and permission to perform disc defragment and slowly the work and the motive of this software changes with due course of time.

The prominent and stature assistance in the times of Windows XP is for sure disc defragmentation but with due course of time with the addition of more and more stronger performance tools the prominence and the significance attached with it slowly on the decline.
